Mamadou Sakho is facing a challenge to secure significant playing time at PSG, where he finds himself behind the defensive duo of Thiago Silva and Alex. With limited opportunities, Sakho is dissatisfied with his current situation and is contemplating a potential departure from the club in the upcoming summer.
Expressing his determination not to miss out on the 2014 World Cup, Sakho acknowledges his disappointment with the management under Ancelotti. Despite starting eighteen times in the league this season, he feels the need for more playing time to continue his development.
“I work hard to play, and my character doesn’t allow me to be content with being a third choice. I accept the coach’s decisions, but I am fighting to earn my place. While I could have chosen to leave last summer, my pride led me to stay and demonstrate that I haven’t given up,” Sakho explains. “It has been a challenging year and a half for me at Paris Saint-Germain. At twenty-three years old, for my progress, I need to play.”
While expressing his deep connection to PSG, describing it as his “favorite club” and feeling at home there, Sakho emphasizes the importance of playing time for his growth. He acknowledges that, if circumstances lead to his departure, he will have to consider his career and personal development.
“In the mind of the PSG coach, I know I am third. I’ve come to accept it, even though I don’t fully understand it, especially since I haven’t received a direct explanation, which is also disappointing. But, despite this, I manage to focus on my game,” Sakho concludes.
