PSG increase bid for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as Juventus monitor deal

Paris Saint-Germain are preparing an improved offer for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki after their opening proposal for the Japan international was rejected, with the French champions increasingly confident of reaching an agreement.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Parma turned down an initial bid worth €28m, plus a further €5m in potential bonuses, for Suzuki. However, the report says the Italian club are unlikely to reject the enhanced package Paris Saint-Germain intend to put forward.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is ready to offer about €35m in total, including bonuses, as negotiations continue. Further contact between the two clubs is expected at the start of next week.

The French club believe a deal can be reached for Suzuki, who has already made clear that he would welcome the move. A transfer to Paris Saint-Germain would represent a significant step forward in the 23-year-old goalkeeper’s career.

The proposed move also has implications for Juventus, who regard Suzuki as their preferred target for the goalkeeper position. Juventus’ interest is linked to Luciano Spalletti, who wants the Japan international to become part of his plans in goal.

Should Suzuki complete a move to Paris Saint-Germain and join the club at the Parc des Princes, Juventus remain hopeful of signing him on a direct loan. That possibility would allow the Italian side to pursue their preferred goalkeeper despite Paris Saint-Germain winning the race for his permanent transfer.

Parma’s decision on the revised offer is therefore central to the next stage of the negotiations. The opening bid, worth €33m when the potential bonuses were included, did not convince the Serie A club to sell. Paris Saint-Germain’s planned package of approximately €35m represents an increased commitment from the French side as they seek to secure the goalkeeper.

Suzuki has emerged as a transfer target for both clubs, but the nature of their interest is different. Paris Saint-Germain are seeking to complete a permanent signing, while Juventus are hoping they could bring him in temporarily if the French club finalise the deal with Parma.

The expected discussions next week could determine whether Paris Saint-Germain are able to turn their interest into an agreement with Parma. For Juventus, the outcome may not end their pursuit of Suzuki, with a loan arrangement still viewed as a possible solution if the goalkeeper moves to the French capital.
