Liverpool’s French-Malian centre-back Ibrahima Konaté is reportedly tempted by a move to PSG, as the Ligue 1 champions set their sights on the talented defender.
Born and raised in Paris, Konaté’s potential return to his hometown could mark a significant shift in his career.
Konaté began his football journey at Paris FC before joining Sochaux’s Academy and later signing his first professional contract with RB Leipzig. His rise to prominence at Leipzig led to a €40m move to Liverpool in 2021, where he has since established himself as one of the world’s top centre-backs alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The 25-year-old’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed in France. A regular starter for Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus, Konaté has also captained the national team. His development has caught the attention of PSG, who are keen to rejuvenate their defensive options as stalwart Marquinhos turns 31 this year. Signing Konaté would allow Luis Enrique’s Les Parisiens to plan for a future without the Brazilian international.
Konaté is currently tied to Liverpool with a contract set to expire in 2026. The Reds are expected to either extend his contract or sell him in the summer while his value remains high.
