Former Olympique de Marseille defender Eric Di Meco has heaped praise on Blaise Matuidi, calling him an indispensable asset in Laurent Blanc’s Paris Saint-Germain lineup. Speaking during a broadcast on beIN Sports and RMC, Di Meco defended the midfielder’s value and work ethic, especially amid past doubts about his role in the PSG squad.
“Blaise Matuidi? I’ve loved that player for a long time,” said Di Meco. “Remember last season when people said, ‘Ah, Matuidi won’t play much this year.’ And now again, with Ángel Di María arriving—given that his best position at Real Madrid was in midfield—many assumed he would take Matuidi’s spot.”
Yet, Matuidi has proven his worth time and again.
“In every predicted lineup, the one expected to drop out was always poor Blaise. But at the start of the season, he’s the one winning you matches.”
Di Meco also underlined Matuidi’s evolution and consistency:
“No, he may not be Pastore, but there are other qualities. And considering the progress he’s made—respect. It bothers me that we always underestimate players like him.”
