Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has offered words of encouragement to Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi following Morocco’s narrow defeat to Senegal in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Morocco lost the final 1-0 to Senegal, but the Spanish coach was quick to single out Hakimi for praise, congratulating him despite the disappointment of missing out on the continental title.
Speaking during a press conference ahead of PSG’s upcoming European fixture, Luis Enrique acknowledged the outcome of the final while stressing the importance of sportsmanship.
“This is the way of football. In the end, the Senegalese national team won the African Cup of Nations title. It is our duty to present the final to the champion for this well-deserved victory,” Enrique noted.
The PSG manager also applauded Hakimi’s individual display and the overall performance of the Moroccan team throughout the tournament.
“We must commend Achraf Hakimi’s performance as a player, and congratulate the Moroccan national team on their amazing level despite not winning the title. I am confident in Hakimi’s ability to quickly overcome the loss of the final match,” he said.
Paris Saint-Germain are set to face Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday evening in the seventh round of the UEFA Champions League.
