In an unprecedented move in the history of football, particularly in European club competitions, Paris Saint-Germain is aiming to achieve it. According to L’Equipe, players from the Parisian club will receive an extraordinary bonus if they triumph in Lisbon on May 24th during the Champions League final.
“The Parisians will each receive an individual bonus of 1 million euros if they emerge victorious from the final clash in Lisbon,” the French daily announced.
Reportedly, it was Zlatan Ibrahimovic himself who negotiated this bonus with President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. This additional incentive serves as remarkable motivation for the PSG squad, which would be the first to receive such a substantial bonus.
This development is unprecedented in football history. The bonuses paid to recent competition winners serve as evidence. For instance, after Spain’s first World Cup victory in 2010, the Federation rewarded each player with 600,000 euros. Following Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2012, Abramovich granted players a bonus of 450,000 euros. Bayern Munich players received 800,000 euros each after their victory last year. Even the esteemed Real Madrid is offering only 500,000 euros to each player in the event of their tenth Champions League win this season, which is half the amount promised by PSG.
Ibrahimovic and his team will discover their quarter-final opponent this Friday following the draw.
