Prosper Narteh Ogum warns of tactical battle as Black Starlets face Algeria in U-17 AFCON opener

Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has underlined the scale of the challenge awaiting Ghana as they open their U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign against Algeria, describing the encounter as a tightly balanced and tactical contest.

Ghana begin their Group D journey against the North Africans in a fixture widely expected to set the tone for a competitive group that also includes Senegal and South Africa.

Ogum, speaking ahead of the match, praised Algeria’s structure and organisation on both ends of the pitch while urging his players to stay focused and make the most of their chances.

“We are expecting a very competitive and tactical game. Algeria are a good side with strong organisation both defensively and offensively. Opening matches are always difficult because every team wants to start well,” he told CAFOnline.

He stressed that discipline and composure could prove decisive in a match where margins are expected to be fine.

“We must remain disciplined, focused and clinical when opportunities come. I believe it will be a good contest between two strong teams.”

Ghana head into the tournament aiming for a strong start as they target progression from a difficult group and ultimately qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup later in the year.
