The Professional Clubs Association has confirmed date for the closure of the 2025/26 Egyptian Premier League campaign, taking into consideration the Pharaohs preparation for the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The global showpiece, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Egypt securing one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.
Egypt were handed a tricky group following the draw in Washington DC last December. The North African football powerhouse will compete in Group G against Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.
With the World Cup fast approaching, Tharwat Swilem, a member of the Professional Clubs Association has revealed date for the closure of the league.
“The Egyptian league will most likely end at the end of May, but we have not yet officially set a date for the end of the competition,” said Tharwat Swilem in an interview with Karim Ramzy on the “Game and the Second” program on “Mega Radio”.
“The overall format of the Egyptian Premier League this season is better than in previous years, but the Africa Cup of Nations affected the competition system.”
“All of Hossam Hassan’s and the Egyptian national team’s staff’s requirements will be taken into account, allowing space for the players to rest during the draw for the second round, but I will not say anything now while waiting for the draw.”
“With all due respect to Helmy Toulan, we are talking about the World Cup, while the second Egyptian national team was participating in an honorary tournament, which is the Arab Cup.”
“It is impossible to cancel relegation again in the Premier League. There is a clear crisis for the popular clubs, but what will we do? We are worried about the relegation of a popular club every season, and I hope that Ismaily, Al-Ittihad Alexandria, and all the popular clubs will wake up”
