Prince Owusu has emerged as a rumoured target for Bundesliga side Mainz, with the CF Montréal striker reportedly linked with a move back to Germany.

Data from Transfermarkt lists the probability of a switch at 23%, with the 28-year-old centre-forward currently valued at €2.50m. Owusu is under contract at Montréal but no expiry date is recorded, leaving open the possibility that he could become a free agent in the near future, which would likely influence any negotiations.

Born on 7 January 1997 in Wertheim, the left-footed forward holds both Ghanaian and German nationality and is no stranger to German football. Before moving to MLS, he featured for a string of clubs in his homeland, including VfB Stuttgart II, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II, Arminia Bielefeld, TSV 1860 Munich, SC Paderborn 07, FC Erzgebirge Aue and SSV Jahn Regensburg. That pathway saw him operate mainly in the 2. Bundesliga and 3. Liga, experience Mainz are thought to be weighing up as they assess attacking options.

Owusu moved to Toronto FC in 2023 and then crossed the Canadian border again to join CF Montréal, where his rising profile in MLS has coincided with a sharp increase in his market value, which climbed from €550,000 at Toronto to its current €2.50m mark in Montréal.

No fee has been agreed and neither club has announced talks, but the combination of his physical profile at 1.90m, his recent development in North America and his dual-nationality status makes him a plausible candidate for a Bundesliga return.

If a transfer to Mainz does materialise, it would mark a significant step back into one of Europe’s top leagues and could define the next phase of Owusu’s career, shaping both his reputation in German football and his prospects at international level.
