Pressure on Wydad eases after win over COD Meknes
Wydad AC eased the growing pressure surrounding the club after securing a convincing 2-0 victory against COD Meknes in the 19th round of the Botola Pro.
The Reds went into the encounter desperate to end their disappointing run of results and showed attacking intent from the opening minutes.
Their early pressure eventually paid off in the 25th minute when Hakim Ziyech produced a superb direct free kick to hand Wydad a deserved lead.
Wydad continued to dominate proceedings and doubled their advantage before half time. Ziyech once again stepped up for the hosts, calmly converting from the penalty spot to put the game firmly under Wydad’s control heading into the break.
Coach Mohammed Benchrifa made several adjustments in the second half as he looked to preserve key players ahead of the highly anticipated derby clash against Raja Casablanca next weekend. Despite the changes, Wydad remained comfortable and managed the game effectively until the final whistle.
The victory lifts Wydad into fourth place on the league table with 34 points, while COD Meknes stay seventh with 27 points. More significantly, the win brings an end to Wydad’s difficult spell and provides a major confidence boost ahead of next Saturday’s crucial derby showdown.
