Presnel Kimpembe’s return to competitive action at Paris Saint-Germain has been clouded by confusion and frustration.
The 29-year-old French defender, who was included in the matchday squad for PSG’s Champions League tie against Bayern Munich in mid-week, was left out of the squad entirely for Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash against FC Nantes. This omission left Kimpembe baffled and frustrated, as he had been told by PSG’s medical team that he was ready to return after recovering from a serious Achilles injury sustained in February 2023.
Born in Beaumont-sur-Oise, France, to a Congolese father and Afro-Haitian mother, Kimpembe is eager to return to top-tier competition. Despite feeling fully fit and receiving medical clearance, PSG manager Luis Enrique continues to insist that Kimpembe is still in the recovery phase.
This disconnect between the player’s readiness and the club’s decision is causing tension, with Kimpembe voicing his frustration to multiple figures within the club. It’s a situation that’s now straining relationships and leaving the player questioning his future at PSG.
