Liverpool will face Tottenham in the Champions League final after staging a remarkable comeback against FC Barcelona in the semi-finals.
Despite being without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, the Reds overturned a three-goal first-leg deficit thanks to braces from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum. Yet one of the key contributors to this incredible victory was Sadio Mané, whose talent had once been recommended to Manchester City by Yaya Touré during his time at Southampton, the club he joined in September 2014.
“I’ve always admired Sadio Mané. I liked him and even suggested to the coach to sign him, but it didn’t happen,” the Ivorian midfielder told Afrique Sport. He added, “Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah have built such cohesion that they are almost impossible to stop.”
Manchester City may well regret not pursuing the Senegalese forward, who has become a decisive figure for Liverpool in Europe’s biggest club competition.
