Premier League: Confident Lukaku Ready to Test Manchester City’s Defence
Everton welcome Manchester City to Goodison Park this Sunday in a highly anticipated Premier League clash, as the Toffees aim to build on their impressive 3-0 win over Southampton last weekend.
At the heart of Everton’s resurgence is Romelu Lukaku, who netted twice at St Mary’s and appears to be entering the new season with renewed confidence. The Belgian striker, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, believes his physical dominance can unsettle City’s defence.
“I’m bigger and stronger than the City defence, so I’m not scared,” Lukaku told The Guardian. “I know if they use my speed and I win the physical duels, I’ll have a good game.”
The 22-year-old also spoke of his ambition to reach elite levels, drawing inspiration from two of the Premier League’s most lethal forwards:
“If you want to be one of the best, you have to learn from the best. Right now, that’s Diego Costa and Sergio Agüero. I have potential, but it still needs to explode,” he said.
Lukaku highlighted that beyond his physical attributes, he’s working on improving his vision and decision-making:
“Sometimes I can see a good pass. If that happens regularly, I can add that to my height, power and speed.”
With two goals already this season and confidence running high, Lukaku will be a key figure as Everton look to topple a Manchester City side brimming with firepower and experience. While City have won their first two games in dominant fashion, the Toffees remain a tough prospect at home, and Sunday’s fixture could provide an early test of both sides’ title credentials.
