Former Senegal international and current head coach of Libya, Aliou Cissé, has argued that it is difficult to predict the winner of the Africa Cup of Nations than the World Cup.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Arab Cup playoffs, where Libya was eliminated by Palestine on penalties, the celebrated African football icon said he is expecting a surprise at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
“In an Africa Cup of Nations, you can never say exactly who is going to win. Unlike a World Cup, where it is easier to make predictions, here anything can happen. There will always be surprises,” Aliou Cissé.
Meanwhile, the coach says he hopes that Senegal, which is his country, wins the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
“I hope it will be with Senegal, because I come from that country and my heart is with that team,” Cissé said.
He added, “Besides Senegal, several teams have the potential to win this AFCON, such as Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, or Nigeria.”
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to kick off in Morocco on December 21, 2025, with the final set for January 18, 2026.
