Power Dynamos kept their CAF Champions League hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Renaissance Berkane in a tense Group A encounter at the Lévy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The Zambian side struck twice in the second half to secure a crucial win in the fifth round of group matches, responding to a subdued opening period by taking advantage of their momentum after the interval.
Backed by a vocal home crowd, Dynamos delivered a performance that reignited their campaign in one of the competition’s tightest groups.
After a first half that saw both sides struggle to create clear chances, the match turned almost immediately following the restart.
Mulambia broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, shifting the balance of the contest and lifting the intensity inside the stadium. The goal forced Berkane to chase the game as they attempted to find a route back into the contest.
The Moroccan side pushed forward in search of an equaliser but were unable to break through a disciplined Dynamos defence.
Their efforts left space at the other end, and the hosts made it count. Mumba doubled the lead to seal the result, ensuring the three points stayed in Ndola and confirming a result that had significant implications for Group A.
The win leaves the standings finely balanced heading into the final round of matches. Power Dynamos and Renaissance Berkane are now level on seven points, with both teams also sharing an identical goal difference of minus one.
Despite the defeat, Berkane remain second in the group, holding a head-to-head advantage after their 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
Power Dynamos sit third but remain firmly in contention for qualification, with the final group games set to determine which teams progress to the quarter-finals. The result has ensured that nothing is decided ahead of the last matchday.
All four sides in Group A will play simultaneously on February 14. Power Dynamos face a trip to Pyramids for a 7:00 PM GMT kickoff, while Renaissance Berkane will host Rivers United at the same time.
With qualification still at stake, both fixtures are expected to carry significant pressure as the group reaches its conclusion.
