AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has expressed confidence in the club’s new era under returning manager Massimiliano Allegri and hailed the summer signing of Luka Modric as a major boost.
Leao, who is of Angolan heritage, believes the changes at Milan this off-season can lay the foundation for a successful campaign.
The Portuguese international was speaking after Milan confirmed Allegri’s reappointment and completed the high-profile signing of Modric from Real Madrid.
“I’m very happy with Allegri, someone who has already won at AC Milan,” Leao told Sky Italia.
“He brings a lot of experience and knows how to manage the locker room. The young players are also liking him because he talks to everyone and intervenes a lot during training.”
The 26-year-old added that Allegri’s presence could be vital to his individual development.
“He can bring a lot to the team and to me personally; he can help me have a great season.”
Leao, a key figure in Milan’s recent domestic and European campaigns, also underlined his ambition to compete for top honours.
“Playing in this jersey is a dream. I’ve won important trophies, and we want to do that every season. AC Milan deserves to be in the Champions League.”
Commenting on Modric’s arrival, Leao praised the Croatian midfielder’s pedigree and leadership.
“Experience and quality. He’ll help the team a lot. I’m happy; he was a great investment by the club, a very important player, and I expect great things from him.”
AC Milan are targeting a return to the summit of Italian football after falling short in Serie A last season.
