Portugal and Norway produced two spectacular goals in quick succession as they drew level during their UEFA Nations League Group A match in Porto on Sunday, 4 October 2026.
Norway took a surprise lead in the 36th minute through Kristoffer Ajer, despite Portugal having controlled much of the contest. A long free-kick from the halfway line reached the Norway centre-back at the far post, where he brought the ball under control with his first touch before striking a superb half-volley into the top corner.
Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa had no chance of stopping the effort, which gave Norway an unexpected advantage and prompted beIN SPORTS to describe it as a “wonderful goal”. It was Ajer’s first goal, according to the broadcaster.
Norway’s lead lasted only two minutes. Portugal responded in the 38th minute when Joao Cancelo met a long throw from Nuno Mendes on the edge of the penalty area.
Cancelo chose to shoot first time, sending a powerful and accurate effort into the top corner beyond the reach of Norway goalkeeper Selvik. The goal restored parity and brought Portugal back into a match they had largely controlled before being caught out by Ajer’s finish.
The two goals ensured that the contest was level again before half-time, with both sides finding the net from outstanding strikes at either end.
