Islam Slimani Injured Against Schalke, Set to Miss Upcoming Matches
Algerian striker Islam Slimani was forced off the pitch just 25 minutes into Sporting CP’s Champions League clash against Schalke 04 (3–4) in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday night. The forward, who started the match, was visibly in discomfort before being substituted due to injury.
According to Portuguese media reports, Slimani is suffering from myalgia — muscular pain — in the posterior region of his left thigh. The nature of the injury suggests a strain or overexertion, though the full extent of the damage remains unclear. Sporting’s medical team was set to conduct further tests on Wednesday to determine the duration of his absence.
As a result, Slimani is already ruled out of Sporting’s upcoming league fixture this weekend and will miss the Matchday 8 encounter against Marítimo on Sunday.
The injury is a setback both for Sporting, who rely on his attacking presence, and for the Algerian national team, with upcoming international duties on the horizon. A clearer prognosis is expected following the completion of the medical evaluations.
