Polokwane City coach Willy Moloto resigns after nine matches

Polokwane City head coach Willy Moloto has resigned just months after taking charge of the Betway Premiership club.

The Limpopo-based side confirmed the decision on Tuesday morning, when players were informed of Moloto’s departure before their training session.

Moloto was appointed at the beginning of the season after Phuti Mohafe left Polokwane City to join Marumo Gallants. However, his time in charge lasted only nine matches.

Polokwane City have won once under Moloto, drawn five times and lost three games. Those results have left the club 11th in the league table with eight points.

His resignation follows a period in which he had been dealing with health problems. Those issues had already forced him to step away from the dugout while he focused on his recovery.

Moloto was regarded as a highly rated coach when he was handed the role at Rise and Shine, but Polokwane City must now begin the search for a replacement for the remainder of the campaign.

The club’s next scheduled fixture is a league match against Durban City towards the end of November.

The extended break before that match gives Polokwane City time to identify and appoint a new head coach.
