Pitso Mosimane was not treated fairly by Al Ahly, says former club midfielder Karim Walid Nedved

Former Al Ahly midfielder Karim Walid Nedved has spoken out in support of Pitso Mosimane, insisting that the South African coach was treated fairly during his tenure at the Egyptian giants.

Mosimane joined Al Ahly in 2020 from Mamelodi Sundowns and spent nearly two years at the helm, guiding the club to significant success, including two CAF Champions League titles.

Despite these achievements, the 61-year-old was dismissed amid pressure and inconsistent domestic performances.

“Mosimane was appreciated at Al Ahly and was not treated unfairly, but football in South Africa is not played under the pressures that occur at Al Ahly,” Nedved Walid said, per Yallakora.

“[In South Africa], they are used to the idea of a legitimate coach, like Jose Riveiro.

“In the African final against Zamalek, Mosimane told us that in order to win, we had to start the match with strong pressure to score an early goal, and we did that, but we then retreated. That was the players’ doing, not his request.”

Mosimane is currently unattached after leaving Iranian side Esteghlal.
