Pitso Mosimane has visited Al Ahly’s headquarters in Al Gezira ahead of South Africa’s meeting with Egypt on Sunday.
South Africa will play Egypt at Cairo International Stadium at 21:00 local time on Sunday.
Mosimane, who is currently in charge of the South Africa national team, was welcomed by Al Ahly board members Sayed Abdel Hafiz and Tarek Kandil during his visit.
The club published photographs of the former manager’s return to its headquarters, where he was also accompanied by South Africa goalkeeping coach Marcus Mashilo.
Kabelo Rangoaga and Moise Matlaba also joined Mosimane. Both previously worked on his coaching staff during his time with Al Ahly.
Mosimane said he was delighted to be back at the club and stressed the special place Al Ahly holds in his career.
His visit to the club’s headquarters and the Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium brought back memories of his time with the players, administrative staff and supporters, he said.
At the end of the visit, Kandil and Abdel Hafiz presented Mosimane and his delegation with an Al Ahly shield and club shirt.
Mosimane responded by giving South Africa shirts to Kandil and Abdel Hafiz. The exchange reflected the strong relationship between the coach and Al Ahly officials.
Mosimane took charge of Al Ahly in 2020 and guided the club to successive CAF Champions League titles.
He also led the Egyptian club to bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup in its last two editions during his tenure.
Al Ahly won the 2020 Egypt Cup under Mosimane, as well as the CAF Super Cup twice.
His time at the club also ended with setbacks. Al Ahly lost the league title last season and were unable to retain their African crown for a third successive year after losing to Wydad Casablanca in the competition’s final.
