Pitso Mosimane open to return as Bafana Bafana coach
Former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed he would welcome the chance to return to the helm of South Africa’s national team, with the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) firmly in his sights.
“So I would love to do that with Bafana and win the AFCON, that’s the one I want,” he said on SMWX Podcast.
“It’s possible, but I’m not campaigning. The football association will put whoever they think is right, but if you ask me today, ‘Would you sign the contract?’ I’d sign it today, because it means a lot to me and I think we’re at the right time, with the right generation,” the former Bafana coach added.
Mosimane, who enjoyed a highly successful tenure with the national team before moving on to club management, stressed that while he is not actively lobbying for the role, the opportunity to guide the current generation of players to continental glory remains deeply appealing.
South Africa will hope to make a return to the next edition of the AFCON tournament, which will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in 2027.
With Mosimane’s proven track record, fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see if a return to Bafana Bafana becomes a reality.
