Pitso Mosimane eyes Bafana Bafana coaching job, targets AFCON glory
Renowned South African coach Pitso Mosimane has opened up about his interest in returning to the helm of Bafana Bafana, revealing his ambition to capture the one continental prize that has so far eluded him.
“Myself, I’m interested (in the Bafana job), because I’ll tell you one thing, it’s the medal I want to close everything (with), that’s the medal I don’t have on the continent,” Mosimane said on the SMWX Podcast.
Mosimane, who previously managed Bafana Bafana with distinction, stressed that while he is open to the role, he is not actively campaigning for it.
“So I would love to do that with Bafana and win the AFCON, that’s the one I want. It’s possible, but I’m not campaigning. The football association will put whoever they think is right, but if you ask me today, ‘Would you sign the contract?’ I’d sign it today, because it means a lot to me and I think we’re at the right time, with the right generation,” the former Bafana coach added.
The former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns coach brings a wealth of experience to the table, having won multiple domestic and continental trophies across Africa.
His comments have fueled speculation that he could be a leading candidate to guide South Africa into the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, where expectations are high for a youthful squad brimming with talent.
With Mosimane’s reputation for success and his clear desire to finally secure continental glory, Bafana Bafana fans may be dreaming of a familiar face steering the national team toward a long-awaited AFCON triumph.
