Pitso Mosimane criticised by former Al Ahly official despite trophy-laden spell
South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane has come under criticism from a former Al Ahly official despite his highly successful tenure at the Egyptian club.
Mosimane, popularly known as Jingles, spent almost two years in Cairo after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns to take charge of the Red Devils.
During his time at Al Ahly, the South African enjoyed significant success, winning the CAF Champions League twice, the Egyptian Premier League and Egypt Cup, as well as a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, former Al Ahly head of football Adly El-Qiai has questioned Mosimane’s personality and approach, despite the trophies he delivered during his time at the club.
“I didn’t like Mosimane in press conferences, and it seems that this was his culture,” El-Qiai said, according to El Balad.
“After the match, he says: If I had these players at Al Ahly, I would have done more things.
“He is not impressed with the players; he is impressed with himself, and he exaggerates.
“He is a bigot and a personal person, and if he takes a stand against a player, he will finish him off.”
El-Qiai’s comments are likely to come as a surprise given Mosimane’s achievements at Al Ahly and the positive remarks made about him by several former players and officials since his departure.
Mosimane left the Egyptian giants in June 2022 after securing a number of major honours and establishing himself as one of the club’s most successful coaches in recent years.
