Pitso Mosimane has moved to clear the air after comments were circulated suggesting he would never return to coach Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The South African tactician, who guided the Cairo side to some of their brightest moments in recent years, stressed that the words printed in a local paper were false.
Mosimane, now 61, enjoyed a historic spell with Al Ahly between 2020 and 2023. His tenure brought the Egypt Cup, back-to-back CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, and a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup. For fans, those years still carry weight, with his name tied to a proud era.
The controversy started when a South African outlet quoted him as saying he would not return unless Al Ahly’s board understood that football involves winning, drawing, and losing. Mosimane quickly rejected this on his official X account, labeling the report “fake news.”
The denial arrives as Al Ahly navigates a shaky period after parting ways with Spanish coach José Ribeiro, who lasted only five rounds of the Premier League before results turned sour.
