Head coach of Gabon Thierry Mouyouma has announced his squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup play-off, with Olympique Marseille star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the charge.
The Panthers missed out on qualification on final day of the qualifiers after finishing second in Group F with 25 points. Gabon gave Ivory Coast a stern test in the qualification series but narrowly missed out automatic spot for the global showpiece to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
However, coach Mouyouma has summoned 26 players for the high-stake World Cup playoff, scheduled to take place in Morocco.
The playoff structure sees Gabon face Nigeria, while Cameroon takes on DR Congo. The winners will compete on November 16 for a spot in the intercontinental playoffs.
Aubameyang is without a doubt Gabon’s most important player heading into the qualifiers, and he will be relied upon to guide the team to their goal.
The former Chelsea and Barcelona star established himself as a key member of the Panthers since making his debut and will be crucial in the playoff.
Since making his debut for Gabon in 2009, Aubameyang has 80 appearances, scoring 39 goals across the period.
Other players expected to play vital roles for the Gabon national team include Mario Lemina, Royce Openda, and Noah Lemina.
