On Monday, May 13, Gabonese superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was named the best African player in the French football league for the 2023-24 season.

The announcement was made by a panel of experts brought together by RFI and France 24.

This is Aubameyang’s second time receiving this prestigious Marc-Vivien Foe award, the first being in 2013.

At 34 years old, Aubameyang, who plays for Olympique Marseille, snatched the title from reigning champion and teammate Chancel Mbemba Mangulu.

He earned an impressive 253 points, surpassing his competitors and solidifying his place as the top player in the league.

In second place was Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi with 136 points, followed by Lille’s Nabil Bentaleb with 112 points.

This year’s win adds to Aubameyang’s already impressive career. He has 16 goals and 8 assists in the French Ligue 1 this season.

He was named African footballer of the year in 2016 and has enjoyed success with various clubs.

Before joining Marseille, he played for Monaco, Dijon, and had a successful stint at Saint-Etienne from 2011 to 2013.

He then moved to German club Borussia Dortmund, where he gained experience in the Champions League and scored his first goal in the competition against Napoli in 2013.

In addition to his time in the French league, Aubameyang has also played in the English Premier League with Arsenal and Chelsea, and even had a brief spell in La Liga with Barcelona before returning to Chelsea and eventually finding his way back to France in July 2023.

Throughout his career, he has won various titles, including the Spanish Championship in 2023, the English Cup in 2020, and the German Cup in 2017.
