Pierre Ekwah emerges as Auxerre target after Saint-Etienne return

French-Cameroonian midfielder Pierre Ekwah is being linked with a move from Saint-Etienne to Auxerre, with the Ligue 1 club reportedly considering a transfer for the 24-year-old.

Ekwah currently plays for Saint-Etienne in Ligue 2 and has a documented market value of €2m. The defensive midfielder has not appeared in any of the club’s three possible league matches so far this season, with no starts or minutes recorded.

He returned to Saint-Etienne on 30 June after completing a loan spell at Watford. Ekwah joined the English club on loan in February 2026, having initially moved to Saint-Etienne from Sunderland in August 2025 for a reported €6m.

The potential move would see Ekwah step up from Ligue 2 to France’s top flight, with Auxerre named as the club interested in securing his services. The available information does not indicate whether the clubs have opened formal negotiations or whether an offer has been made.

Ekwah began his senior career at Sunderland after developing in the youth systems of Chelsea and West Ham United. He joined Saint-Etienne following a loan spell there in the 2024-25 season, before returning permanently the following summer.

For now, Ekwah remains a Saint-Etienne player, although his lack of action at the start of the 2026-27 Ligue 2 campaign has coincided with speculation over a possible move to Auxerre.
