Philipp Lahm Announces Retirement from International Football After World Cup Triumph
Germany’s national team captain Philipp Lahm has announced his retirement from international football, just five days after leading his country to World Cup glory.
Speaking through his agent Roman Grill to the SID agency, Lahm said, “It’s the right time for me” to step away from the international stage following the ultimate achievement in football.
At only 30 years old, Lahm ends his international career at its peak, having earned 113 caps for Germany. Despite retiring from the national team, he recently extended his contract with Bayern Munich until 2018, ensuring he will continue playing at club level. This decision means Lahm will miss both the Euro 2016 tournament in France and the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
His leadership and versatility will be sorely missed by the German national side as they prepare for future competitions without their esteemed captain.
