Ahmed Khaled says Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad has contacted him every day since the Petroleum Assiut player suffered a serious ankle injury during their Egyptian Premier League meeting.
Khaled fractured his ankle and tore ligaments after a challenge involving Awad in the match between the two sides.
“Mohamed Awad has been in touch with me every day since the injury,” Khaled told DMC. “I cannot give him enough credit for the support he has shown me.”
Khaled also spoke about referee Hamada El-Qallawy, who faced heavy criticism after the incident.
“The referee, Hamada El-Qallawy, contacted me and gave me his phone number during a live broadcast I was conducting on my account,” he said. “But I have forgiven him, because every person is capable of making a mistake.”
The Petroleum Assiut player said his club doctor had given him an expected recovery timeline.
“The team doctor told me that I could walk after a month and a half, and return to training after around three months,” Khaled added.
Khaled also revealed that Reda Shehata is set to become Petroleum Assiut’s new manager and is currently in Assiut.
According to FilGoal.com, the club’s board has held a meeting with Shehata to complete an agreement for him to take charge, replacing Ahmed Abdel Maqsoud.
Petroleum Assiut were beaten 1-0 by Zamalek in a seventh-round Egyptian Premier League fixture at Borg El Arab Stadium.
They are currently 16th in the league table with five points.
