Petrojet knock Wadi Degla out early in Egypt Cup
Petrojet continued the tradition of Egypt Cup surprises by knocking out Wadi Degla with a deserved 1-0 win at Petro Sport Stadium in the round of 32.
The second-division side booked their place in the last 16 under coach El Sayed Eid, who has restored calm, structure and belief to the team.
The match was intense and fairly balanced early on, with both sides trying to impose their style and chase an early goal for a psychological edge. Wadi Degla relied on high pressing and quick movement down the flanks, while Petrojet focused on organised build-up, solid defensive positioning and dangerous counter-attacks.
In the second half, Petrojet gradually took control in midfield and began to create clearer chances. The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Senegalese forward Seko Sonko punished a defensive error inside the box with a powerful strike, sparking wild celebrations on the home bench.
Wadi Degla pushed hard in the closing stages but could not break through a disciplined Petrojet back line and an alert goalkeeper.
The final whistle confirmed Petrojet’s passage to the last 16, where they will face the winner of Modern Sport vs El Qanah, and reinforced the sense that this season’s Egypt Cup will once again be rich with upsets and drama.
