Pep Guardiola reveals how Manchester City stopped Mohamed Salah’s threat

Manchester City’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool became a showcase for Pep Guardiola’s strategic brilliance, especially in neutralizing Mohamed Salah.

Guardiola praised his defenders for sticking to a well-organized plan that shut down one of the world’s top forwards.

Speaking after his landmark 1000th match as a coach, Guardiola said, “I thank the players for this gift, against the toughest opponent I’ve faced here over the past ten years. Seeing talents like Robertson and Salah in these battles is inspiring, and I hope these clashes continue.”

Liverpool, hit by missed chances and defensive mishaps, saw their title dreams fade a bit, as Haaland missed a penalty but then scored, followed by goals from Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku. Guardiola detailed the tactics: “We pressed to recover the ball quickly, and I love when my team moves and passes with speed. The first half, both offensively and defensively, was excellent.”

On stopping Salah, Guardiola shared, “Salah has haunted defenders for years. I made sure Nico was tough against him, and having three or four players around Salah whenever he touched the ball helped us a lot.”
