Pep Guardiola applauded January signings Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo after Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Wolves, a result that stopped a damaging run of defeats against Manchester United and Bodo/Glimt.
Semenyo scored the second goal, while debutant Guehi delivered a composed performance in defence that clearly impressed his manager.
“They are both well-prepared players, unlike last season when we brought in mostly young players, except for Omar Marmoush,” Guardiola said, underlining how quickly the pair have adapted.
He highlighted Semenyo’s impact in the final third, praising his energy and movement and describing his goal as brilliant, noting how well he controlled the ball and even carved out another chance from a Guehi pass.
Guardiola was equally enthusiastic about Guehi, saying the defender “can do everything” and comparing his focus and concentration from the first minute to Ruben Dias.
He pointed to the 25-year-old’s calmness in possession and leadership traits, stressing that Guehi did not arrive as a short-term fix but as a long-term cornerstone, calling his fee “a perfect” investment and insisting that even after only two training sessions it was obvious City could rely on him for years to come.
