Pep Guardiola has shared a positive update on Jeremy Doku’s recovery, saying the Manchester City winger is edging nearer to a return but is not quite ready to rejoin full training yet.
“Jeremy is close,” Guardiola said when asked about the Belgian’s fitness. “He still doesn’t train with us, but we will see. He’s a little better, but (against Salford) we needed wingers.”
Guardiola underlined just how important Doku has become to City’s attacking identity, especially in games where width and one‑v‑one threat are crucial.
“We know how important he is. It helps us a lot in how we play. I’m more than delighted with how we behave,” he continued, praising the squad’s response in Doku’s absence.
The City boss also highlighted the value of having multiple dynamic wide options available when Doku is fit. “Antoine has played a lot of minutes, if you make shifts with Doku, Semenyo, Savinho, the opponents defend in their box for 90 minutes. That’s why everything was so difficult (on Saturday),” Guardiola explained.
His comments make clear that once Doku is back, City’s attacking rotations could look far more explosive again.
