Pep Guardiola backs Manchester City after club found guilty of financial breaches

Pep Guardiola has sent a message of support to Manchester City’s players, staff and supporters after an independent commission found the club guilty of all charges relating to serious breaches of Premier League financial regulations.

The commission concluded that, between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons, Manchester City had entered into “sham” contracts with several commercial partners as part of a “concealed financing scheme”. It said the arrangements artificially inflated the club’s revenue by £830m.

Manchester City continues to deny the allegations and will appeal the decision. The club has until Friday 2 October to submit its appeal.

Chief executive Ferran Soriano described the proceedings as “a Premier League conspiracy theory” in a video message addressed to the club’s players and staff.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sky Sports reported that Guardiola, who managed Manchester City between 2016 and 2026, had published a message of support for the club on social media.

“I want every Manchester City supporter around the world to know that I am here; more than ever,” Guardiola wrote.

The Spanish coach, who left the club at the end of last season, added: “I have always supported, and will always support, my club, its owner, its chairman, Ferran (Soriano), the players, the staff, Enzo Maresca and you: our special fans.”

He concluded: “Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all.”
