Sitting 13th in the standings and mired in a four-game losing streak, KV Kortrijk is enduring a difficult and frustrating start to the season. Yet amid the struggles, one player has managed to stand out and provide a rare source of optimism: Pelé Mboyo.
The Belgian striker of Congolese descent has emerged as the team’s lone bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Since returning from a loan spell in Saudi Arabia during the second half of the 2018–2019 season, Mboyo has quickly reestablished himself as a key figure in Kortrijk’s attack. Interest is said to be particularly strong from abroad, with at least one Turkish club and several sides from the United Arab Emirates reportedly keen on securing his services. For KV Kortrijk, however, the situation presents a dilemma. On one hand, losing their most effective attacker mid-season would further weaken an already struggling squad.
