Sitting 13th in the standings and mired in a four-game losing streak, KV Kortrijk is enduring a difficult and frustrating start to the season. Results have been hard to come by for the Flemish side, and confidence within the squad has taken a hit as defeats continue to pile up. Yet amid the struggles, one player has managed to stand out and provide a rare source of optimism: Pelé Mboyo.
The Belgian striker of Congolese descent has emerged as the team’s lone bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Since returning from a loan spell in Saudi Arabia during the second half of the 2018–2019 season, Mboyo has quickly reestablished himself as a key figure in Kortrijk’s attack. His impact has been immediate and decisive, both in terms of goals and overall contribution to the team’s offensive play.
With six goals and four assists already to his name, Mboyo currently boasts the club’s best attacking record. His ability to find the net and create opportunities for teammates has made him indispensable to the Kerels. In a side struggling to convert chances and maintain consistency, his performances have often been the difference between competitiveness and defeat. Week after week, he has carried much of the attacking burden, showing leadership and determination even as the team around him falters.
Mboyo’s resurgence has not gone unnoticed beyond Belgium. According to reports from Walfoot, several foreign clubs have started to monitor his situation closely. Despite Kortrijk’s poor form, the striker’s individual displays have attracted growing interest on the international market. His combination of experience, physical presence, and goal-scoring instinct makes him an appealing option for teams looking to strengthen their front line.
Interest is said to be particularly strong from abroad, with at least one Turkish club and several sides from the United Arab Emirates reportedly keen on securing his services. These clubs are believed to be preparing concrete offers, potentially as early as the January transfer window. Their willingness to move quickly highlights the value they see in Mboyo and the impression he has made during the first half of the season.
For KV Kortrijk, however, the situation presents a dilemma. On one hand, losing their most effective attacker mid-season would further weaken an already struggling squad. On the other, a significant transfer fee could provide much-needed financial flexibility and help the club reinforce other areas of the team. Complicating matters further is the fact that Mboyo recently extended his contract, giving Kortrijk greater leverage in negotiations and the ability to demand a higher price.
The club must now decide whether to resist offers and keep their star forward for the remainder of the campaign or consider a loan or permanent transfer if the financial terms are attractive enough. Much will depend on Kortrijk’s sporting ambitions and their need to stabilize results in the second half of the season.
For the moment, Pelé Mboyo remains the team’s most reliable weapon and a rare positive in a challenging period. But with foreign interest intensifying, his future at Kortrijk could soon become one of the key talking points of the upcoming transfer window.
