The Togolese Football Federation (FTF) has announced that Paulo Duarte is no longer the head coach of the Togo Hawks, following his resignation on Thursday, June 20.

The Portuguese technician tendered his resignation to the FTF Executive Committee, bringing an end to his three-year tenure as coach of the national team.

The FTF expressed regret over Duarte’s decision but acknowledged his contributions to the team, thanking him for his work, commitment, and professionalism.

Duarte took the helm in May 2021 and embarked on a major reconstruction project, but his efforts failed to yield desired results, with the team struggling to secure victories in crucial matches.

Despite his best efforts, Duarte was unable to turn the tide, leading to his decision to step down. The FTF will now need to find a new coach to take the reins before September, when the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers commence.

The search for a new coach will be a crucial one, as Togo seeks to revive its fortunes and make a meaningful impact in the qualifiers.

The FTF will need to act swiftly to appoint a suitable replacement, who can build on Duarte’s work and steer the team towards success.

With the AFCON 2025 qualifiers looming, the incoming coach will have a daunting task ahead, but also a golden opportunity to make a mark on Togolese football.
