Paulo Duarte eyes next move after departures from Togo and Saudi Arabia

Paulo Duarte eyes next move after departures from Togo and Saudi Arabia

Portuguese coach Paulo Duarte is exploring new opportunities after parting ways with both Togo and Saudi club Al-Kholood. The former Burkina Faso manager, now without a club, is keeping his options open across Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Al-Kholood officially confirmed Duarte’s departure on October 14, 2024, marking the end of his brief stint in Saudi Arabia.

Since then, he has been enjoying time with his family while remaining receptive to coaching offers.

Open to New Challenges

“For almost four months, I have been at home enjoying my family. I am a free coach, and I remain open to new opportunities, whether in Africa, Europe, or Asia,” Duarte told Burkinabe outlet Sidwaya.

According to Africa Top Sports, the Portuguese tactician has already been approached by clubs in North Africa, though discussions have yet to materialize into a deal.

Duarte’s coaching career has seen him manage teams in various countries, including Togo and Saudi Arabia.

While his contracts in both roles ended prematurely, he insists his departures were amicable and unrelated to performance issues.

A Return to Burkina Faso?

Despite his past success with Burkina Faso, where he led the Stallions to a historic AFCON final in 2013, a return to the national team appears unlikely at this stage.

However, with his vast experience in African football, Duarte remains a sought-after figure in the coaching market.

For now, the 55-year-old is waiting for the right project as he looks to resume his managerial career.
