Paul Pogba set to leave Monaco as club plans contract termination

Paul Pogba’s time at AS Monaco appears set to end soon, with club management informing the 33-year-old midfielder they intend to terminate his contract nearly a year before it expires.

The decision was made even before a new thigh injury sustained during training on Tuesday.

According to Nice-Matin, a financial agreement still needs to be finalised between the World Cup winner and the Principality club, which is prepared to settle his remaining salary. The move represents a logical conclusion given Pogba’s extremely limited playing time since joining.

The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder made just six brief appearances in Ligue 1 last season following his suspension for doping. During this pre-season, he featured only once, playing a single period against Saint-Priest in a 5-2 friendly victory.

Pogba’s injury struggles and lack of match fitness have made it increasingly difficult for Monaco to justify keeping him on their books. It remains uncertain whether the World Cup-winning midfielder will attempt to relaunch his career elsewhere or decide to retire from professional football altogether.

The situation marks another disappointing chapter for a player once considered among the finest midfielders of his generation, whose career has been repeatedly disrupted by injuries and off-field issues in recent years.
