Paul Pogba recounts horrible experience during second spell at Manchester United
France international, Paul Pogba, has revealed that he battled with depression and hair loss during his spell at Manchester United.
Having returned to the Premier League side from Juventus in August 2016, Pogba returned to the Serie A side in 2022.
Pogba, who is of Guinean heritage that he struggled with some of the mental battles.
According to him, he couldn’t comprehend how he had gone from being a key player, for whom the club spent a then world-record fee, to a benchwarmer with no real explanation from the coaching staff.
“I didn’t understand, I was a big player with a big role in the team, and then all of a sudden I found myself on the bench,” Pogba told GQ.
“I couldn’t speak, there was no communication. I wasn’t happy, and a footballer who isn’t happy doesn’t perform well.
“I fell into depression without even realising it. Because nobody teaches you what depression is. I started to find holes in my scalp during that moment. I didn’t understand what it was, I was told it was stress,” Pogba said.
Still, even if results on a sporting level were not always the best during his second Old Trafford spell, Pogba believes that ‘everyone got their money’s worth’ on a commercial level.
“It was good for everyone in the end,” he said. “For Manchester, for Adidas, for me. Everyone got their money’s worth.”
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba recently saw his doping ban expire which makes him free to play football again.
