Juventus Reject €80 Million Bid from Barcelona for Paul Pogba
The long-running transfer saga involving Paul Pogba has taken another twist. Juventus have officially turned down a substantial €80 million offer from FC Barcelona for the French midfielder, reaffirming their determination to hold on to one of their most prized assets — unless their valuation is fully met.
The bid was submitted following a high-level meeting between Barcelona and Juventus representatives on Wednesday morning, as confirmed by Africa Top Sports. Despite months of speculation linking Pogba to several European giants, including Manchester City, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain, it is the Catalan club that has taken the most concrete steps to sign him.
However, Juventus are standing firm. “We have received an offer of €80 million, but we are not selling,” declared Juve’s general manager Giuseppe Marotta. His statement signals that while talks with Barcelona are very much alive, the Italian champions are unwilling to accept anything below their own valuation — believed to be closer to €100 million.
Pogba, 22, remains one of the most sought-after midfielders in world football, following a standout season with Juventus in which he played a key role in the club’s domestic double and their run to the UEFA Champions League final. His youth, skill, and versatility have made him a top priority for Barcelona, who are currently barred from registering new players until January 2016 due to a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.
Yet, that hasn’t stopped the Catalans from laying the groundwork for a future move. According to reports, Barcelona’s bid includes the possibility of Pogba staying at Juventus on loan for another season before joining up with the Spanish side in 2016.
As it stands, the negotiations remain active. With both clubs seemingly open to continued dialogue, a deal is not off the table. But unless Barcelona are willing to increase their offer closer to the €100 million mark, the French international will be staying in Turin — for now.
