Paul Onuachu leads tight Turkish Goal King race as Victor Osimhen ruled out

The battle for the Turkish Super Lig’s Golden Boot is heading for a dramatic conclusion, with Paul Onuachu holding a slender advantage that leaves the title race delicately poised going into the final round.

With just one match left, the Trabzonspor striker sits atop the scoring chart, but his one-goal cushion ensures the outcome remains far from settled.

Known locally as the Gol Kralı, the award recognises the league’s most prolific finisher each season, and this year’s contest has developed into a tense, multi-player chase.

Onuachu leads the standings, yet pressure continues to mount from close contenders eager to capitalise on any slip. His immediate challenger, Eldor Shomurodov of Basaksehir, has registered 21 goals in 33 appearances, keeping himself firmly within striking distance ahead of the decisive fixtures.

Meanwhile, Anderson Talisca remains an outside contender with 19 goals in 30 matches for Fenerbahce.

Despite leading the race, Onuachu’s recent form introduces an element of uncertainty. The Nigerian forward has not scored in his last four league outings, with his most recent goal coming against Galatasaray on April 4. That dip in output has allowed rivals to close the gap and heighten the stakes ahead of the season’s climax.

However, Onuachu’s pedigree in front of goal offers reassurance. The towering striker previously dominated in Belgium, finishing as the top scorer in the 2020–21 campaign with 33 goals for Racing Genk.

His remarkable season was further recognised with multiple individual honours, including the Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year, the Belgian Golden Shoe and the Ebony Shoe, underlining his proven ability to deliver under pressure.

In contrast, Victor Osimhen has been effectively ruled out of this year’s race. Last season’s winner has managed 15 goals in the current campaign, but his hopes of retaining the crown have been extinguished due to suspension, which will keep him sidelined for Galatasaray’s final fixture against Kasımpaşa.

With Osimhen no longer in contention, the spotlight remains firmly on Onuachu and his closest challengers. A single goal could ultimately determine the destination of the Golden Boot, ensuring that the final day of the Turkish Super Lig season carries significant individual stakes alongside the broader competition narrative.
