Patson Daka: Zambia striker in talks over Hamburg move after Leicester exit

Zambia forward Patson Daka, currently without a club after leaving Leicester City, is being strongly linked with a move to Bundesliga side Hamburg. Discussions are understood to be at an advanced stage, with the probability of a deal being completed currently rated at 68%, and the German club exploring the possibility of bringing in the 27-year-old as a free agent.

Hamburg’s interest is driven in part by Daka’s prolific record in German football. During his previous spell in the Bundesliga he scored 54 goals in 82 appearances, averaging a goal every 90 minutes, form that made him one of the division’s most effective centre-forwards at his peak. His ability to play through the middle and finish with his right foot has kept him on the radar of clubs across Europe despite a more modest return in England.

Daka joined Leicester from Salzburg in 2021 for a fee of €30m after significantly increasing his market value in Austria, but he struggled to replicate his Bundesliga output in the Premier League. He registered 10 goals and seven assists in 76 league appearances for the Foxes before his contract came to an end this summer, with his estimated value now around €3m.

The Chingola-born striker, who stands at 1.83m, has also shown he can score in European competition, with seven goals in 15 Europa League games. As things stand, Daka remains a free agent following his official departure from Leicester on 1 July 2026, leaving Hamburg well placed to move quickly should they decide to formalise their interest.
