Patrick Maswanganyi’s Al Khaldiya beaten by Al Kuwait in Asian Champions League
Patrick Maswanganyi and Al Khaldiya suffered a 3-1 defeat by Al Kuwait in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday evening.
The 28-year-old started his second AFC match for the club, but Al Khaldiya were unable to match the Kuwait Premier League champions and remain without a win in the competition.
Faisal Zaid put the home side ahead in injury time at the end of the first half. Yousef Nasser then doubled Al Kuwait’s advantage after 60 minutes.
Maswanganyi’s evening ended five minutes after half-time, with the former Orlando Pirates player substituted in the 55th minute as his side struggled to impose themselves on the match.
Al Khaldiya reduced the deficit in the 80th minute when Gleison scored, giving the visitors hope of earning a point. They pushed forward in search of a late equaliser but were unable to find a second goal.
Instead, Al Kuwait settled the contest in the sixth minute of added time. Nasser scored again to complete his brace and secure a 3-1 victory for the hosts.
After two matches in the Asian Champions League, Al Khaldiya are bottom of their group with one point. Their next AFC fixture will be against Al Kuwait in December, although the match will be played at home.
