Patrice Motsepe is backing Al Ahly to fly Africa’s flag high at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
The CAF President has sent an official letter of support to Mahmoud El Khatib, the club’s president, ahead of the Red Devils’ tenth appearance at the global event.
Motsepe praised the Egyptian giants for their consistency, calling them a source of pride for the continent. He said he trusts both the club’s leadership and players to represent Africa with honour.
“Millions of African people are always proud of Al Ahly and its ancient history,” Motsepe noted in the letter.
Al Ahly will open their Club World Cup campaign against Inter Miami on 15 June 2025 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. They’re placed in Group A alongside Brazilian side Palmeiras and Portuguese giants Porto.
With 25 matches played across previous tournaments, Al Ahly not only holds the record for most Club World Cup appearances by an African team but also boasts the highest number of matches played at the event.
