CAF president Patrice Motsepe has called on African football fans to put aside past disputes and rally behind the continent’s representatives at the upcoming FIFA World Cup, stressing that unity and support should take centre stage.

Speaking on the broader vision for African football while addressing the media following an official visit to North Africa on Thursday, Motsepe urged supporters to throw their weight behind all 10 African nations set to compete on the global stage, while also celebrating standout players representing different countries.

“Let’s back all 10 African representatives. Support players like Brahim Diaz and Achraf Hakimi. I shared the same message in Senegal, support Sadio Mané, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and others. We must rise above past issues and respect whatever CAS decides,” he said.

His remarks come amid lingering tensions in African football circles, with several disputes still awaiting resolution. However, Motsepe insisted that the focus must now shift to continental pride and performance on the world stage.

He also underscored the long-standing cultural and social ties between African nations, using relations between Morocco and Senegal as an example of unity beyond football.

“There are around 250,000 Senegalese living in Morocco. These countries share a proud history. Football should never separate us, but rather unite us, and we will build on this legacy. African football will emerge stronger from the challenges we face,” he added.

Motsepe’s message reflects a broader push within CAF to strengthen solidarity among member associations as attention turns to the World Cup, where African teams will look to make a strong collective impact.
