Achraf Hakimi targets bold AFCON return despite ankle injury

French Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint Germain has provided an injury update on Morocco international, Achraf Hakimi, just 17 days to the commencement of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Hakimi, who recently secured the African Footballer of the Year award has been out of action for club and country after succumbing to an ankle injury in the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich early November 4.

The pacey Morocco full-back is now racing against time to join the Atlas Lions squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled between December 2025 and January 2026.

“Hakimi is continuing his individual rehabilitation program to recover from the injury.” A statement from the club reads.

The enterprising right-back is hoping to recover on time for the AFCON tournament, set to run from December 21 to January 18, 2026.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star has been an integral member of the Morocco national team, playing an instrumental role in their seminal finish in the 20222 World Cup tournament in Qatar.

Hakimi’s availability for the tournament will be crucial, as Morocco seek to secure the AFCON 2025 title.
