Paris Saint-Germain must make formal offer to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain have yet to submit a formal bid to Barcelona for Ferran Torres, despite widespread reports that the forward has already reached an agreement with the French club.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo says there is currently no official proposal on the table at Barcelona for the former Valencia player. Paris Saint-Germain have made their interest known, but now need to turn that intention into a concrete offer for the Spanish club to assess.

Reports from France suggest the potential transfer could be worth about €50m. Outlets including Onze Mondial and Le Parisien have identified that figure as the amount Paris Saint-Germain could be prepared to pay to sign Torres.

There is, however, a belief in France that the foundations are in place for an agreement to be reached quickly. One factor that could accelerate the process is Torres’ reported desire to avoid returning to Barcelona training on Wednesday, even if only temporarily.

Torres is expected to join Barcelona’s training sessions next Wednesday alongside the other players from the national team that won the World Cup. That return could become an important moment in the developing transfer situation, particularly if Paris Saint-Germain have not yet completed their formal approach.

Mundo Deportivo reported: “While Ferran was still playing in the World Cup, where he ended up as a world champion, Barcelona made it clear that its only striker who had played as a ‘9’ in the area during the past two seasons after Robert Lewandowski’s departure was not for sale, unless the player himself requested to leave, a circumstance that would open the door to listening to offers from interested clubs.”

That position explains why Barcelona are prepared to consider proposals now, despite previously indicating that Torres was not available. The club’s stance was that the forward would remain unless he personally asked to move elsewhere.

Paris Saint-Germain have already contacted Barcelona to express their interest formally in signing Torres. Their next step is to submit an official bid, allowing Barcelona to evaluate the financial and sporting implications of a possible deal.

Until that offer arrives, no agreement has been formally presented to Barcelona, regardless of the reports suggesting that Torres and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an understanding. The Catalan club is therefore waiting for the French side to provide an official proposal before deciding how to proceed.

The expected value of approximately €50m remains a reported figure rather than an agreed fee. Paris Saint-Germain’s willingness to meet that valuation, and Torres’ attitude when he returns to training with Barcelona, could determine whether negotiations develop into a completed transfer during the current summer window.
