Paris Saint-Germain face possible sanctions after political banner at Parc des Princes

Paris Saint-Germain could face disciplinary action after supporters displayed a political banner during Saturday’s match against Le Mans at Parc des Princes.

The banner was raised by Collectif Ultras Paris in the Auteuil stand and read: “Your militias repress, and our youth resists.” It referred to student protests and allegations that police had used violence.

Security staff moved to remove the banner, prompting supporters to leave the stand temporarily in protest. The fans chanted “Freedom for the ultras” as they departed, before returning to their seats after half-time.

Parc des Princes regulations prohibit banners containing political, ideological or philosophical messages. The incident has therefore raised the possibility of sanctions against Paris Saint-Germain, although any punishment is not automatic.

The relevant disciplinary authorities could investigate the incident, assess the content of the banner and consider the measures taken by the club to deal with it. The security intervention and the removal of the banner may also be taken into account when the circumstances are reviewed.

Possible penalties for such incidents include a financial fine or the partial closure of a stand. However, there has been no official confirmation that an investigation has been opened or that any sanction has been imposed on Paris Saint-Germain.

Reports in French outlet Foot Mercato said the club’s punishment remains only a possibility at this stage. A decision would depend on whether the disciplinary authorities decide to examine the incident and how they assess both the banner and the club’s response.
