Parfait Mandanda is set to return to Sporting Charleroi after a six-month spell in Romania, where he went in search of regular playing time.
A product of the Girondins de Bordeaux youth academy and the younger brother of Steve Mandanda, the 29-year-old goalkeeper had been with Sporting Charleroi since the summer of 2011. Over the years, he became a familiar face at the Belgian club, making 99 appearances in all competitions. However, this season proved more complicated for the Congolese international, who was limited to just three appearances, prompting him to seek a temporary move in order to relaunch his career.
Last winter, Mandanda joined Dinamo Bucharest on a six-month loan. The move has allowed him to regain rhythm and confidence, as he has already started six matches for the Romanian club coached by Mircea Rednic. His performances have given him valuable game time after a long period on the sidelines.
According to Belgian outlet Walfoot, Parfait Mandanda will return to Charleroi at the end of the season once his loan expires. The club’s management has reportedly been very clear about his future: there is no question of selling him this summer. Charleroi intend to count on him next season and view his Romanian experience as a way to bring back a sharper, more competitive goalkeeper.
With this return, Mandanda could once again play an important role at Sporting Charleroi, where he hopes to re-establish himself and compete seriously for the number one spot after a challenging year.
